“It’s my favorite to date because it challenged me as a Maestro Mezcalero, pushing me to bring out the very best in both the agave and myself.”
Madre Maguey — Madre Cuishe
Madre Cuishe is a wild-harvested agave, carefully selected for our exclusive small-batch limited edition release of Reserva del Maestro.
Adapting to the arid and rocky soils of Oaxaca, Madre Cuishe thrives in these harsh conditions that shape its distinct and complex character. Its name, “Madre Cuishe,” reflects its role as a key pollinator for other cuishe agaves, like Bicuishe and Cuishe, contributing to the genetic diversity and propagation of these varieties.
Its fibrous, elongated structure presents additional challenges during production and requires great skill from our maestro mezcalero, Fortino Ramos.
Sipping Notes
Herbaceous aromas with hints of orchard fruits and pine nuts give way to rich, creamy, and buttery layers, accented by a subtle minerality and bright bursts of orange peel on the palate. Known as a “mother” maguey, the resilient Madre Cuishe agave invites a bold yet refined sipping experience, culminating in a warm, earthy finish with cozy notes of yam and caramel.
